Division 1.

Cefn RBL have again been crowned champions. In mid season the champions were some 7 points behind leaders Ruabon but each week made ground and passed the leaders with about a 5 weeks to go and from then on didn’t look back. In their final fixture they destroyed Llan Rafa A 5 – 0 , Mark Gibbins wrapping up this season proceedings with a fine 51 break against top performer Dylan Williams. Cefn also have reason to celebrate as it was their very own Matthew Roberts who in only the second match of the season recorded the highest break seen for a while in the league, a fine 98 which secures the high break trophy. Robert Dubicki of Ruabon who missed the 1st game of the season became the 2nd player to book his place against our visiting professional Jamie Cope on April the 5th by taking the most wins with 17 from 17. Cons A who now find themselves without a home due to The Conservative Club making a commercial decision to abolish Snooker from their club played their last fixture at the Orthopaedic and went down 2 – 3 to Ruabon. The result was good enough to take runners up spot and mark the end of a fine last season for Cons A, especially Brian Tudor who after nearly 60 years in the league still finds himself amongst the top 5 players in the league and top of his own teams averages.

Division 2.

Ex Serv D are back amongst the elites best next season after a quick return back up to the 1st division. In their latest fixture they defeated their own B team by 4 frames to 1. The win saw Brian Clarke and Shaun Donnerley (Barney) both win again and both lads have now secured their place to play in the snooker exhibition by finishing on most wins with 15 wins each. Look out for Finals Week Table Maintenance Man Ricey reserving front row seats…… Elsewhere Ellesmere B did their level best to throw away their 3 point advantage going into the last fixture after going down 4 – 1 to Ifton. Results had to go their way elsewhere and after Dreamteam Ex Serv C beat 3rd placed Flexsys B 4 – 1 it meant Ellesmere B will also be playing top division next season. It was in week 3 of the season that Matt Roberts of Chirk knocked in a 50 break but it has stood ever since and takes the Highbreak Prize.

The Presidents Bowl starts this Wednesday and all fixtures should now be in your clubs.

Cons A head the 1st division as the Snooker League approaches its final month. In their latest fixture they defeated Flexsys A 5 – 0. Big wins coming from Paul Seliaerts, Paul Rogers and Ian Morris. Cons A are now 1 point clear of Cefn & Ruabon who both recorded 3 – 2 home wins. Cefn were in trouble early as they went 2 – 0 down to Ellesmere A thanks to wins for Pete Wilkinson & Colin Nuttall but Cefn came back strongly with Matthew Roberts recording a 58 break in his 99 – 10 win over Darren Sumner. Mark Gibbins and Martin Evans secured the win thanks to wins over Nick Rogers & Lee Gorton respectively. Ruabon too came from 2 – 1 down to win 3 – 2 over Ex Serv A. Martin Metcalfe and Ian Jones had given the town team a good start but Ruabon won the match courtesy of Andy Evans, unbeaten Robert Dubicki and Jason Saffy. In Other Fixtures Llan Rafa A thrashed Cons B 5 – 0 with Dylan Williams and Gareth Wilson starring. Ex Serv E won a close encounter with Llanrahedr with wins from Aled Lloyd, Pete Watkins and the back to form Phil Coulson.

BERWYN GARAGE DOORS OSWESTRY & DIDTRICT BILLIARDS LEAGUE

Ellesmere having already been crowned champions took on 2nd placed Rhos and ended their season with a 5 – 0 win. Albert Barklay had a 37 break in his 200 – 148 win over D Wright. Allen George defeated Meirion Jones 200 – 182 to ensure he collected the most wins accolade and is the 1st Player on the list to play Snooker Professional Jamie Cope at the end of the Season. Pete Watkins and debutant were the other winners for the champions. Llanrhaedr in 3rd place needing to make ground travelled away to Chirk and lost 0 – 5 with big wins for Darren Williams and Matt Roberts. In the battle of the Conservative Club, it was Cons A that defeated Cons B by 3 – 2. Brian Tudor giving some 179 head start went down 200 – 129 to Norman Morris. The Closest game of the night was Eaton Williams 200 – 197 win over Rich Jones. Johnny Edwards and Adrian Jones both won their games by good enough margins to win the match for Cons A by virtue of a higher aggregate.

Cons A lead the way in the top flight of the Snooker by virtue of matches won. In their latest fixture they defeated Llanrhaedr 5 – 0 with Brian Tudor defeatintg S Jones 89 – 10 showing why he is top of the most wins. 2nd Place Cefn RBL remain joint top with a 4 – 1 home win against Ex Serv E, Colin Roberts winning a very tight frame against Mike Williams. Ruabon remain in touch after a 4 – 1 home win against Ellesmere. Bobby Dubicki remains on Most wins also after a 78 – 42 win against Mike Dorey. Elsewhere Ex Serv A defeated Cons B 3 –2 with Ian Jones starring 85 – 33 against Brian Wilson. Flexsys v Llan Rafa A was cancelled.

As the final few fixtures in the new year now begin it is Ellesmere that lead the way 7 points clear of nearest Rivals Rhos. The league leaders in their last fixture before the break went down 2 – 3 to Llanrhaedr with Merf Edwards putting a dent in Allen Georges most wins . Rhos moved a little closer with a 4 – 1 home win against Cons A with Brian Furmstone the star of the show. In the only other Fixture Cons B defeated Air Products 4 – 1 despite Meryl Barrow going down 197 – 200 to a very resolute Frank Long.

JOE LAVIN XMAS CUP HELD AT THE RAVEN HOTEL

Defending Michael Champion Michael Dubicki reign soon came to an end losing 3 nil in his 1st match to Gresford Player Mark Roberts (despite carvery stopping play after only 1 frame...dont ask). For the 2nd year running Colin Nuttall drew Lee Gorton but this time reversed last years scoreline winning 3 - 0. Bobby Dubicki clinched his 3 - 0 win over Allen George with an 85 break (£10.00 highest of the Tournament) in the final frame. Chris Davey of Prees overcame a gruelling match 3 -2 against Oswestrys Mike Williams. Mark Ellis beat Luke Davey 3 - 0. Mike Dorey beat Nick Rogers 3 - 0. Matthew Roberts beat Dennis Hughes 3 - 0 and runner up of the last 2 years Greg Edwards beat Matt Hooson 3 - 1.

In the last 8 Matthew Roberts beat Robert Dubicki 3 - 0, Colin Nuttall beat Mike Dorey 3 - 0. Greg Edwards beat Mark Ellis 3 - 0 and Mark Roberts beat Chris Davey 3 - 1.

In the Semi Finals Colin Nuttall beat Mark Roberts (£25.00) and Greg Edwards beat Matthew Roberts (£25.00) both by 3 - 1 scorelines.
